Wedding: The Cake

I had to do a post on our wedding cake. Just had to. As a newly engaged woman, I fell in obsession love with Pinterest! I used it for ideas and tips; some of which were used and some that were not.

When we were wedding planning, I asked z what kind of cake he wanted. He replied “How about a cake made out of apples?” I knew he was only semi-joking so I started researching a compromise!

This cake was one of my first pins:

Naked Apple Cake

The simplicity, the apple theme, the lack of fondant/frosting…we loved everything about it. I’m sure you’ve seen this picture floating around the webs.

We took this picture to our cake baker, Shawna, at Sweet Creations, in April. She said she had never done a cake like this before but was eager to take on the challenge.

After a delicious tasting, in her home, we went on a trip to the Bahamas, checked it off our list and let her work her magic. Magic, indeed:

It was more perfect than I could have imagined and super delicious! I don’t know if I can wait until next October to eat the top layer!

  1. Oh man, that cake looks awesome!! I’m actually starving right now so I could probably eat the whole thing if it was in front of me. :-)

In other news, have we discussed the fact that we both live in northern Virginia now?

    • I don’t think we have discussed that! We have both been moving around for years…AND I was also in Upstate New York (Albany) for Thanksgiving! I didn’t realize you were too until I read your post! We should grab coffee sometime!
